PUNTA GORDA, FL – NBC-2 News is reporting construction has taken over downtown Punta Gorda. Reportedly business owners are complaining about being covered in dust, and the noise never stops. Another major complaint is customers are having a hard time finding parking.

Fort Myers: Mindy McCready’s funeral set for Tuesday in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, FL – The Associated Press is reporting that the funeral for Mindy McCready will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church, 10721 Palm Beach Blvd. A Friday news release says a memorial organized by friends and the music community is tentatively scheduled for March 6 at Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville, Tenn.

Naples: Collier tourist tax proposal directs more money to marketing, beaches

NAPLES, FL – Naples Daily News is reporting there’s paid advertising only about five months out of the year to market local area beaches. Reportedly, there is not enough money is set aside for it from the county’s 4 percent tourist tax, to actively market local area beaches on a year round basis.

Naples: Red tide fish kill on Naples beaches

NAPLES, FL – Beach patrol officers on all-terrain vehicles are picking up the fish by hand each morning and disposing of them in Dumpsters at Lowdermilk Park and another location that rotates, depending on the location of the fish, Naples Harbormaster Roger Jacobsen said.

The speedway’s owner says it’s not up to him because the Charlotte County Airport authority owns the land the speedways sits on.

Florida python hunt ends Sunday with 50 caught

NAPLES, FL – Heading into the final weekend of the state’s Python Florida Hunting Challenge, just 50 of the nonnative, nonvenomous constrictors had been wrestled out of the marshes and hammocks of the Everglades and Big Cypress swamp.
